What Every Small Business Owner Should Know
We don’t have to go at this alone. Nor should we.
As a small service-based business owner, I constantly find myself craving community.
When you’re working for yourself, it can often feel like it’s you against the world, which is totally understandable! As solopreneurs, we have seemingly endless to-do lists and conflicting priorities. It is often overwhelming and isolating.
Community is the salve for our anxieties as womxn business owners. Knowing fellow entrepreneurs, learning from their experiences, and swapping stories provide a foundation for collaboration, feedback, and mutual benefit.
That’s why I decided to start a retreat business, so I could intentionally bring groups of womxn together to create space for them to share their gifts with each other; act as mentors and sounding boards for one another.
Having a strong community of peers and mentors allows for:
Clarity surrounding decision making
We all know the feeling that comes with making a decision for our business. We’ve done the strategy research, yet… we don’t feel quite confident enough to be decisive.
Knowing folks who have “been there, done that” allows you to learn from their process, experience, and mistakes.
In addition, simply talking through your idea and process is often enough to help you find clarity and confidence in your decision.
An abundance of opportunities
It’s called a network for a reason! Each person has connections that expand outward like a root system.
When you surround yourself with supportive people, they’ll say your name in a room of opportunities.
We all have unique talents and offerings. By sharing these talents with others, they have a solid understanding of how we work with our ideal clients, which means qualified referrals!
Fresh ideas and perspectives
We can only know what we know! We open ourselves to unique perspectives through connecting with others, which is a catalyst for creative thinking. I’ve gotten so many incredible ideas through conversations, book recommendations, and resources gained through my community.
Curiosity and a desire for continuous learning are natural aftereffects of a broadened network.
Support & self care
Humans are social creatures. We thrive when surrounded by people that understand us, care about us, and whom we care about in return. We aren’t meant to do anything in this life alone.
Finding your people is the ultimate act of self care for small business owners.
